What to Log and How to Keep Good CPD Evidence
A tracker is only as useful as the entries you put into it. Many logistics professionals undercount their development because they only record formal courses, when in practice much of the learning in supply chain work happens on the job, in workshops and through structured reading. Thinking broadly about what counts, and recording it consistently, makes your record far more representative of your real growth.
Activities worth recording
- Structured learning: short courses, certificate programmes, webinars and seminars on topics such as warehousing, freight forwarding, procurement or transport planning. Our training page is a good starting point for ideas.
- Professional events: conferences, branch meetings and industry briefings, including sessions on port operations, customs procedures or road freight safety.
- Work-based learning: leading a process improvement project, implementing a new warehouse management system or mentoring a junior colleague.
- Self-directed study: reading technical publications, reviewing new regulations or completing online modules.
Make each entry meaningful
For every activity, note the date, the time spent, the provider or context, and a sentence or two on what you learned and how you will apply it. A brief reflection turns a list of hours into evidence of competence, which is far more convincing if your record is ever reviewed. Keep certificates, attendance confirmations or agendas in a single folder so you can find them quickly.
Build a simple routine
Rather than reconstructing a year of activity at renewal time, update your log monthly. Set a reminder, add anything new, and check your progress against your own development goals. Spreading learning across the year also helps you balance technical topics with softer skills such as negotiation, leadership and communication.
Requirements for CPD can vary by membership grade and may change over time, so always confirm the current expectations with the institute directly. For details on grades and what each involves, see the membership page, and browse upcoming events for opportunities to add to your record.
